A one-day outdoor first aid course for climbers, paddlers, hill walkers and anyone working on a highland estate. This is a practical course with lots of outdoor scenarios and focuses on realistic first-aid techniques rather than theory. Please bring clothes that you don’t mind getting wet and muddy as outdoor accidents don’t happen on carpets.
What does it cover?
Topics include; roles & responsibilities, dealing with collapse (with and without breathing), choking, bleeding, shock, some illnesses, environmental effects, heat and cold injuries, using first aid kit, outdoor specific scenarios and outdoor incident management.
This qualification is designed to provide outdoor incident management techniques and latest protocols. Typical delivery methods are predominantly practical, with elements occurring out of doors in outdoor clothing and on various terrains. The course is assessed by continual observation of candidate performance. Ideal for Estate staff, Gillies, Crofters, mountain bikers, climbers and paddlers.
