First aid training courses in Fort William, Lochaber, Argyll & Bute, Mallaig, Fort Augustus, the West Coast and the Highlands
We can start to run course providing we manage the risk.
We have been advised by a number of First Aid bodies and representing organisation that in some cases we can run courses.
If you have a team or group that need first aid training and access to a venue that has space to keep people 2m apart we can probably run a course for you.
If you are in urgent need of training and have one 1 person and a space we can safely use we will even run a course for one person at the same price of a standard place!
We can provide hand sanitiser, face masks and gloves. So if you have a venue such as a large room, workshop or garage that is safe to lie down in and practice first aid while we keep people 2m apart, then we can help you!
We still need to get people to get closer than 2m for some parts of the course, the advice we have received has been clear on this. But by health screening before the course, good quality PPE and lots of common sense we can reduce the risk of Coronavirus.

First Aid cover during 'Lockdown'
How does the Coronavirus and 'social distancing' affect first aid for your business?
The Health & Safety Executive have given some advice on how to still look after your staff and fulfil your legal obligation.
- Re-assess your first aid needs do you have less staff in? Then you may need less trained first aiders.
- Is your site near other working business’s. Could you share first aiders?
- Reduce or stop higher risk parts of your business.
- Your first aiders training about to expire? For First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work you can extend them until the 30th of September as long as you have tried every reasonable step to get on a course before that date.
Coronavirus and First Aid FAQ
We are planning our first First Aid Courses for the end of June and the beginning of July, but if you need a course urgently please contact us.
No course can be 100% risk free, but the UK government and First Aid representative bodies has provided Highlnad First aid with guidance and advice on minimising the risk of spreading COVID19 when delivering first aid qualifications. The guidance provides Highland First Aid with guidance on using PPE, organising courses and preventing ‘high risk’ individuals from entering the training room to minimise risks to all involved on a course. Based on current government guidance and existing best practice within the industry Highland First Aid already have robust Health & Safety policies and risk assessments in place, which are quality assured by ITC.
Whilst most of the course will take place with you at least 2 metres away from any other people, as per the current government guideline sand in line with national first aid sector guidance, you will be required to demonstrate first aid techniques on fellow attendee during the course in order to complete the necessary assessment. Where this is unavoidable Highland First Aid has been provided with guidance on reducing risk of spreading COVID19, as above.
00% online first aid qualifications are not permitted by the HSE. Current HSE guidance allows for a combination of 1/3 online/blended learning: 2/3 face-to-face delivery for certain qualifications e.g. First Aid at Work. The majority of quality first aid providers are continuing to deliver their training 100% face-to-face with comprehensive measures in place to reduce the risk of spreading COVID19. All assessment must be completed face-to-face.
Those of you holding First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid (or variations thereof) qualifications that expired on or after the 16 March 2020, have an initial extension until 16 June 2020. The HSE have subsequently provided guidance which allows a further 3-month extension, provided you have sought training and were unable to find a suitable course and have kept evidence confirming this. Individuals that qualify for this further extension have until 30 September 2020 to re-qualify.
The same rules are currently being applied as above, however anyone using their OFA to validate their National Governing Body (NGB) coaching and/or instructor awards are urged to contact their NGB directly to confirm their approach, as well as contacting your insurance provider to confirm that cover will still be in place during the period of ‘extension.’ We are beginning to run our first Outdoor First Aid courses at the end of June and the beginning of July.
